FC Barcelona built on their winning momentum last night as they got a 4-1 victory over Girona at the Montilivi. An early Lamine Yamal brace put the Catalans in the driving seat for this game, while Dani Olmo and Pedri also scored later to further pile misery on Michel’s side. Cristhian Stuani scored one consolation goal for Girona later in the game.
This was definitely another great win for the Blaugranes, who will now go roaring into the UEFA Champions League opener against Monaco. However, there were some negatives for Flick’s team in this match as well.
One of these negatives was the straight red card Ferran Torres got in the 86th minute for stomping on the foot of the Girona player Yáser Asprilla. The referee did not even hesitate and showed a red card to the Valencian following this action.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the player apologized to his teammates, the fans, and his victim Asprilla, following the match through a message that he posted on his X account. His message went as:
“We won, which is the most important thing, but I want to take this opportunity to apologize to the team, the fans, and the opposing player. My eagerness got the better of me in that incident. The best part is that a new challenge begins on Thursday.”
With this suspension, the Barcelona forward is set to miss the upcoming game against Villarreal next Sunday. But as he will get some guaranteed rest next weekend, Flick might opt to play him in the upcoming Champions League match against Monaco on Thursday.
