FIFA World Cup 26 will be a celebration of not just soccer, but music and culture too. Here is all the information involving the official theme song & Sonic ID release dates.
When fans of soccer think back to their best FIFA World Cup memories, the music of the time is often at the forefront of their minds. Some of the most memorable World Cups in history had iconic songs attached to them - Think Waving Flag by K'Naan or Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) by Shakira.
As the biggest and best sport in the world, soccer has always infused a great sense of culture, with music playing a key role in building this culture. The next FIFA World Cup, which will take place in 2026, will elevate this auditory experience to new heights.
To get a sense of the feeling and vibe the USA, Canada and Mexico-hosted World Cup will bring, soccer fans have already been treated to the official theme song of the tournament. The theme song was released in May 2023, and it has been viewed over 2 million times already.
Alongside the already iconic theme song, soccer fans worldwide will feel a part of each host city, due to the announcement of 'Sonic IDs'. A Sonic ID is an audio brand which is unique to each of the 16 host cities.
Each of the 16 host cities selected a producer of their choosing to remix the official World Cup theme song. The aim is for each producer to capture the essence of the World Cup, while paying homage to the host city in question.
Beginning on March 1 2024, each host city will take their turn to release its unique Sonic ID, thus building anticipation for not just the World Cup but for each of the individual host cities.
Each day for the first 16 days of March, a new host city will unveil their masterfully produced Sonic ID. Not only will the audio become available to fans across the world, but with each day, fans can elevate the experience by watching the visual components of the Sonic ID, via the FIFA YouTube channel.
No matter where the World Cup is hosted, it guarantees one thing - millions, if not billions, of eyes. It is the biggest soccer competition in the world and arguably the most anticipated sporting event in the world too.
