Burnley have agreed a deal with Man United for Hannibal Mejbri
Burnley are reportedly set to pay Manchester United £9 million to complete a deal for Hannibal Mejbri.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Tunisia international is set to complete his move to Turf Moor for just under eight figures.
Hannibal has struggled for game time with the Premier League side and only has one year remaining on his deal at Old Trafford.
He made five appearances in the top flight last year before signing on loan with Sevilla in January, where he played a further six times in the league (all stats from Fbref).
The 21-year-old previously spent time on loan in the Championship with Birmingham City, contributing one goal and five assists from 38 appearances in 2022/23.
It has been revealed that Burnley will pay a total of £9 million to sign Hannibal from Man United ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.
A sell-on clause and buyback option have also been included in the deal, with the player completing his medical on Monday.
It has been reported that final documents still need to be signed, but this should prove just a formality at this stage.
According to The Athletic, the deal involves an initial fee worth £5.4 million, with a further £4 million in add-ons.
It remains to be seen how attainable these add-on bonuses will be, with Burnley closing in on their latest signing of the summer.
The Clarets have already added nine players to Scott Parker’s squad and have until 30 August to finalise any remaining deals.
Hannibal impressed many with his performances at underage, earning his full international debut at the age of just 18.
However, he has been unable to break into Erik ten Hag’s first-team plans on a consistent basis at Man United, leading to his impending departure.
Burnley completed permanent moves for Mike Trésor and Maxime Esteve after initial loan deals at Turf Moor last season.
Bashir Humphreys has also joined on loan from Chelsea for the season ahead, with the club targeting promotion back to the Premier League.
The likes of Joe Worrall, Andreas Hountondji, Etienne Green, and Lucas Pires have all signed for the Lancashire outfit on a permanent basis.
Shurandy Sambo and Vaclav Hladky have signed as well, arriving as free agents after their departures from PSV Eindhoven and Ipswich Town, respectively.
Next up for Burnley in the league will be a home game against bitter rivals Blackburn Rovers on 31 August.
Given Man United agreed an option to buy clause worth €20 (£16.88) million with Sevilla last January, a £5.4 million deal now looks like a great move for Burnley.
Hannibal will be a solid addition for Parker’s side and will reinforce their midfield with a combative midfielder that is comfortable in a possession system.
The Tunisia international has a lot of potential at 21 years of age and knows what it takes to compete at a Championship level.
