Sofyan Amrabat said goodbye to Fiorentina fans after his move to Fenerbahce and the supporters in turn thanked him for giving his all to the last minute. ‘You are a true professional.’

The midfielder flew out yesterday and completed the transfer for €15m, on loan with obligation to buy, having returned from a loan spell at Manchester United.

“It was an honour to wear this shirt and to represent the people of this beautiful club. Thank you for all your support over the years, I will keep you in my heart forever,” wrote the Morocco international on Instagram.

Although everyone knew he would be leaving, Amrabat still started all the Viola matches this season, playing 120 minutes to help nine-man Fiorentina reach the Conference League thanks to a penalty shoot-out away to Puskas Akademia.

This gesture earned special thanks from coach Raffaele Palladino in his post-match interviews.

Several hinted that the midfielder had comported himself in a very different fashion to others who did not participate in the first few games of the season pending a transfer, specifically Nico Gonzalez, who pushed to join Fiorentina’s arch-rivals Juventus.

Amrabat first came to Florence in January 2020 from Hellas Verona at a cost of €19.5m and made 111 competitive appearances for the club.
