Daniele De Rossi gave away two hints that Paulo Dybala could be heading for the exit door around the time of Roma’s recent pre-season friendly against Premier League side Everton.

The Former Juventus attacker’s agent held talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah on Wednesday afternoon.

Though undoubtedly one of Serie A’s most exciting players in recent years, Roma could consider allowing Dybala to leave this summer, largely due to financial motives.

La Joya has one year remaining on his current deal with the Giallorossi, but that contract could be automatically extended for another 12 months if the player makes a certain number of appearances in the upcoming campaign.

What De Rossi said about Dybala during recent Roma friendly

The first sign that Roma are no longer relying on Dybala was the fact that he was left out of the starting line-up for Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

De Rossi instead opted for a 4-3-3 (or 4-2-3-1), including a midfield trio of Bryan Cristante, Enzo Le Fee and captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, with Nicola Zalewski and new signing Matias Soule supporting Artem Dovbyk from the flanks.

Soule could in fact turn out to be Dybala’s direct replacement, even though La Joya played an important role in convincing the former Juventus youngster to join the club this summer.

After Roma’s 1-1 draw with Everton over the weekend, De Rossi also suggested that Dybala is not unsellable when asked about the Argentine’s future.

De Rossi had 31 players at his disposal during the mini-training camp in the UK, which he feels is too many to maintain the right squad balance.

“Those who came to England are all Roma players, but then we’ll see what happens,” The Giallorossi coach said.

“This is true not only for Dybala but for everyone. When I was asked if there were players who should stay at all costs, I said no. Whoever wants to leave is free to do it.”
