Fluminense have been frustrated in their efforts to land Ronaldo da Silva Souza, who is set to sign with Japanese side Shimizu S-Pulse.
The midfielder’s contract at Flamengo will expire at the end of this month, and Flu had hoped to tempt the 24-year-old to make the switch across the Rio de Janeiro divide.
Fluminense manager Roger Machado had worked with the player when he was on loan at Bahia in 2019/20.
However Gazeta Esportiva reports that Shimizu increased their offer to see off the Tricolor’s interest, and the deal has been accepted by Ronaldo.
He will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with the J1 League outfit.
Ronaldo joined the Rubro-Negro’s academy from Paulista in 2013, but was unable to make the breakthrough at first-team level.
