Former Montpellier midfielder and Nantes winter arrival, Florent Mollet made his first appearance in front of the media yesterday to talk about joining the club and his experience with Schalke in Germany.

The 31-year-old spoke about the decision to return to Ligue 1 stating, “I had a very interesting conversation with the coach. The project is also very interesting. It is a club that has been in Ligue 1 for a long time, and which is stable. I am very happy to be here and I hope that we will quickly get to work and try to finish as high as possible.”

Interestingly enough he explained that Nantes was his first choice in the summer, but certain roadblocks came into play that pushed him to join Schalke. While with the German side, he only made 11 appearances and 1 goal in all competitions.

However, the midfielder saw his time in Germany as a learning experience stating, “I learned a lot of things at Schalke 04, I don’t consider it a failure. Nantes was my first choice this summer.”

Head coach Antoine Kombouaré spoke about the recruitment and decision to bring Mollet to Les Canaris explaining, “My vision of Florent is that of a midfielder who organizes the game, who is capable of being decisive. That’s what I expect of him. He is a guy who is motivated, and we both want to do great things with FC Nantes. I have memories of him in Dijon, but also in Metz and Montpellier. He’s a player I’ve always liked. A player with character and experience who will help the group to reach a new level.”

Nantes have been fairly active in the January transfer window. The club has been linked to names like Jeff Reine-Adélaïde, Andy Delort, and others. The club has even managed to work their way up to 13th place on the league table. With the new arrivals and coach Kombouaré still in charge the future is starting to look bright again.
