Venezia striker John Yeboah was not happy with the officiating during their defeat to AC Milan, believing he should have had a penalty.

Milan came away from the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo with all three points on Sunday as they beat Venezia 2-0. It may be too little too late in terms of the league standings, but ultimately the aim is to boost confidence in view of the Coppa Italia final next month.

The first goal took just four minutes to arrive when Christian Pulisic slotted in after an assist from Youssouf Fofana. In the final few seconds, Santiago Gimenez ended his drought with a lovely lob from Tijjani Reijnders’ assist.

Venezia’s head coach Eusebio Di Francesco voiced his frustrations at the officials in an explicit rant, then Yeboah spoke at a press conference. He was probably the best player on the pitch for his team, though he wasn’t happy with the officials.

“I think we played a great game as a team. We obviously had to be a little more focused. I believe in this team, in being able to secure safety, we have to continue to believe in ourselves to push hard,” he said (via MilanPress).

“Probably the goal I scored against Empoli gave me a lot of confidence and a turning point. I felt the confidence of the group even before, today I think I played one of my best performances in my career on a personal level.

“Penalty? For me it was clear, he didn’t touch the ball. I don’t know why they didn’t check it with the VAR, the penalty could have been a big opportunity for us. We’re focusing on the pitch.”
