Rangers have allegedly again targeted a former £8M striker as January careers quickly into view amid Rangers’ attempts to finally sort out the forward positions.
As you will have no doubt seen in the press, Leeds United star Joe Gerlhardt is once again in Rangers’ sights, having first come to the club’s attention in January of this year, but the report was tenuous at best and originated from a pretty unreliable source.
But it’s surfaced again, and despite his value once being £8M and his being an ex-Premier League striker, Gelhardt is not exactly an impressive goalscorer, and is hardly playing either.
Since January of 23 he’s had a massive 36 career appearances – 4 goals. And all of this is in the Championship.
Indeed his Premier League record isn’t worth shouting about either – 35 appearances, 6 goals and assists. It’s ‘OKAY’ but not amazing and he only started 6 of those matches. The rest were sub cameos. A total of 900+ minutes.
He’s 22, has tonnes of youth caps for his country (England) but they died away around the U20s level and he was overlooked after that.
He can’t get a game for Leeds these days, Leeds in the Championship, and we can’t say he’s one we’d want at Ibrox at all.
We were sceptical at best of the use of this boy in January and his non-event career at Elland Road since then suggest that dubiety was justified.
He’s not good enough for League One never mind Rangers.
