Heading into the crucial Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona superstar Gavi has recently raised a few eyebrows.
In a press conference, the young midfielder was asked about criticism pointed towards him with labels such as “he’s just a physical player, who lacks technical ability.”
Gavi, though, didn’t take these criticisms kindly and offered a pointed response to the critics.
“Many people think I don’t know how to play football; they don’t have a f***ing clue. But it’s understandable,” he said.
Gavi’s bold response didn’t go well with some pundits either, including former Barcelona youth player and commentator, Jofre Mateu.
Jofre took to X to express his displeasure at Gavi’s statement, writing: “If you talk like that at 20 and people laugh at your jokes, it’s only natural that you’ll have problems in the near future.”
A product of the famed La Masia youth academy, Jofre used to be a part of the Barcelona B setup during the dawn of the century.
However, the winger had very little success in his career, making just two competitive appearances for Barcelona. That said, he was quite the star in the Indian Super League later in his career, notably winning the title with Atletico de Kolkata.
Nevertheless, it is unlikely Gavi will be fazed by criticisms over his response and will solely focus on the game at hand against Dortmund.
With Dani Olmo unavailable, the onus will be on the young Spaniard to provide the creativity and aggression in the final third, as Barcelona look to break the shackles of a depleted BVB backline.
