Former Barcelona player Martin Braithwaite wants to buy Espanyol after leaving as a free agent less than a month ago. According to Marca, the Dane wants to become the largest shareholder of the parakeet club and is currently assessing his finances.
The striker believes it will further enhance his brand and image in football. Braithwaite was a crucial player in Espanyol’s promotion to the First Division, scoring 22 goals and grabbing two assists in 39 appearances.
The forward waited until July 15 for his clause to expire and then he left as a free agent. Furthermore, the main reason behind his departure was the breakdown in relationship with the Pericos board.
The Danish player believes the renewal offer he received from the club showed a lack of respect and he felt that they didn’t want him to continue at the club due to this insulting offer. Now, the former Barca man is waiting for the numbers to come out in order to become the owner of the club.
Braithwaite, who appears on the Forbes list as one of the richest players in football, is looking to add to his current businesses that consist of a real estate company in USA, a restaurant in Gavá and his own clothing line. He is also continuing to make his final efforts as a professional in the Brazilian league with Brasileirão club Grêmio.
