Earlier in the summer, Chelsea triggered the release clause of Marc Guiu, who opted to join the Premier League giants rather than stay at Barcelona. At 18 years of age, Guiu is seemingly not ready for first team football in west London, and he could be set for a return to Catalonia.

It wouldn’t be Barcelona that’d be joining, but rather their city rivals, Espanyol. That’s according to Esport3 (via Sport), who’ve reported that Los Pericos are favourites to sign Guiu on a season-long loan deal.

Espanyol are poised to lose star striker Martin Braithwaite imminently, as he has agreed a move to Olympiacos. A new number nine is desperately needed, and Guiu is well-placed to take on that role, provided than a deal can be closed with Chelsea in the coming days/weeks.

If Guiu does return to La Liga, it will be interesting to follow his performances. He was raw, but promising whenever he pulled on the Barcelona jersey.
