According to a report from Foot Mercato, Nottingham Forest’s Hwang Ui-jo could be on the move again this January. Minnesota United of the MLS have made an offer for Hwang, while Japanese side Vissel Kobe are also thought to be in discussion with the South Korean international.

Transferred from Bordeaux to Forest last summer, he was immediately loaned out to Olympiacos, with whom Forest share an owner (Evangelos Marinakis). He had form in Ligue 1, where he had registered 29 goals and seven assists across three seasons with Les Girondins. His tally in the league last season (11 goals, 2 assists) was not enough to prevent relegation for Bordeaux, who now play in Ligue 2.

He has had a disappointing season for the club from Piraeus thus far, with only one assist across 12 matches in all competitions. During South Korea’s Qatar World Cup campaign, he started the first game, but lost his place in the starting eleven and made three appearances from the bench in the remaining games.

Olympiacos want to terminate his loan, and he does not feature in Forest’s plans for the rest of 2023: his future may be found in either the USA or Japan. Minnesota placed an offer for him last summer, but, favouring Europe, he opted for a move to the East Midlands.
