Experienced Icelandic international Aron Gunnarsson could be on his way to Belgium. According to Imar Vandenbeele, the 35-year-old central midfielder is set to join up with fellow Icelander Freyr Alexandersson in Kortrijk. The midfielder has been without a club after his contract in Qatar with Al-Arabi SC came to an end in July. Gunnarsson has been in Qatar since making the move from Cardiff in the summer of 2019.
Gunnarsson will bring plenty of experience to the Belgian side if he does indeed join Kortrijk. Prior to joining Cardiff, who are in fact the sister club of Kortrijk as they both are owned by Vincent Tan, Gunnarsson made 133 appearances for Coventry, scoring seven goals and grabbing eight assists. During his time in Wales the midfielder became a fans favourite, playing in both the Championship and the Premier League. He amassed an impressive 286 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 22 assists. In Qatar, the midfielder played 98 times with nine goals and four assists.
