Standard Liege have announced that former Chelsea, MK Dons and Wimbledon defender Henry Lawrence has agreed to extend his contract until 2029. The 23-year-old joined Standard in the summer of 2023 and spent the majority of his first season in Belgium playing for the sides second team, SL16. The side were relegated from the Belgian second tier last season, with Lawrence then moving up to join the first team.

Standard’s inability to spend money over the summer means that the likes of Lawrence have been able to experience more first team football this season. The defender has played 14 matches this season, 13 in the league and one in the cup. 11 of these have been starts. Lawrence has impressed in recent weeks and it is not surprising that, given their current situation, Standard want to secure any young talent for the foreseeable future.

Lawrence trained with Chelsea as a youngster but never made an appearance for the first team. He played 32 games on loan at Wimbledon during the 2021/2022 season, before then going on loan to their rivals MK Dons the following season. He played 35 times for the Dons, scoring twice.
