Former England man makes big play for Rangers job

We didn’t previously cover the Adrian Bevington ‘to Rangers’ story simply because when folk in the media throw their hat in the ring for an Ibrox job, it never happens.

We remember when Lyndon Dykes publicly confirmed he wanted the Rangers switch, and ended up at QPR instead. There was Tommy Wright announcing he’d love to manage Rangers in 2017, and we ended up with Pedro instead.

These ‘come and get me pleas’ for right or wrong seem to be interpreted by Rangers as too eager and desperate, and the club goes the other way every single time.

And Bevington is the latest to do it, to offer his services as Rangers’ CEO. The former FA director of communication said:

“They are a huge club – a football institution – with a global fan base so of course I would always be happy to have a conversation, if they wanted to have a conversation with me. If that takes us anywhere? That’s a different set of circumstances and it’s important for myself to be extremely respectful to the people in office in Ibrox as well. I’m not trying to pull anything on with them but would I be willing to have a conversation with them? Of course I would. I do know one or two people in and around Rangers. I made some initial contact quite some time ago now but I have not had any dialogue with Rangers with regard to this position.”

It is understood that, in fact, Rangers are still working on trying to get Hearts’ Andrew McKinlay, so that deal might not actually be dead in the water, but the Bevington story appears a touch of self promotion.

He’s currently Managing Director of some consultancy agency called ProProfil but was speaking to the DR about this while also trying to distance himself from his well-known association with Kyle Fox (remember her).

On that toxic mess he said:

“The situation you are talking about from two years ago, my role there was the person who was introducing one or two people. This lady in particular was looking to bring investment into the European football market and these conversations happen with football clubs all over the world on a frequent basis. That ship has long since sailed as far as I’m aware and I have no direct involvement or relationship with the person concerned.”

This has probably stained Bevington by association, Kyle Fox is not a popular individual at Ibrox having been threatened by the board with legal action over her penniless Rangers takeover attempt.

Fox refused to speak to Ibrox Noise despite our questions suggesting her motives were anything but honest. She was in ‘charge’ of a Hedgefund which lacked much capital, and saw Rangers as a money-making opportunity. True, capital trust fund systems are about cash, but as a pure profit venture for our club, that’s a no.

And Bevington was the one who brought her in.

So it’s not that surprising that Rangers aren’t too interested in his services as CEO.
