Sint-Truiden have confirmed that 37-year-old Japanese forward Shinji Okazaki has signed a two-year-deal with the club. The forward joined the Canaries last summer for free from Cartagena, going on to make 32 appearances in all competitions. During the 2022/2023 season, Okazaki scored once and provided two assists. On the club website, the statement indicated that Okazaki took a pay cut to remain at the club, with his role to be that of someone that the younger players at the club can learn from.
Okazaki won the Premier League with Leicester City and scored 19 goals in 137 games for the Foxes. He has spent time in Germany with VfB Stuttgart and Mainz 05, and after playing in England he moved to Spain to play for SD Huesca and the aforementioned Cartagena.
Prior to retiring from international football, Okazaki scored 50 goals in 120 games for his country. Sint-Truiden recently added another Japanese international in Ryoya Ogawa on loan with a purchase option from FC Tokyo.
