Huddlestone will be replacing former Chelsea and Arsenal full-back Ashley Cole as Birmingham’s assistant manager.

However, since leaving United, Huddlestone has also taken a role in the England U21s set-up. It’s a job he will continue while working at Birmingham.

Huddlestone previously represented United’s academy as both a player and coach. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder never made a senior appearance for United, but his experience as a Premier League player is believed to have benefited the development of academy players who worked with him.

Speaking about the appointment of Huddlestone as assistant coach, Birmingham manager Chris Davies said: “Tom is an excellent coach and a great addition to our first team staff as we look to build on our start to the 2024/2025 season. He has vast playing experience, which has been added to by coaching roles he has held with club and international teams.

“This will provide a different dynamic to the group and I expect the squad to feed off his knowledge of the game. We are all looking forward to working with him and wish him every success at Birmingham City.”

We would like to wish Huddlestone the best of luck with his coaching career.
