Former Portsmouth player throws jibe at Southampton after Brighton loss

Former Portsmouth player Adam Webster took to social media to take a jibe at Southampton after Brighton won on the South Coast at the weekend.
This season has been one to forget. Unfortunately, though, Saints fans will be hard-pressed to forget a season quite as disastrous as this one. To cut a long story short, their return to the Premier League has not been fruitful in any imaginable way.
Russell Martin, who achieved promotion back to the English top flight, was fired just before Christmas last year. A few months into his tenure, it is hard to justify Ivan Juric being much better, despite changing the identity of Southampton slightly.
Nevertheless, there is not much blame we can point at Ivan Juric. After all, he inherited a mess that was almost impossible to clean. In truth, nothing in his career indicated that he could come in and fix that mess immediately, so he was more of a long-term hire for Southampton.
Not only are Southampton attracting self-deprecation from their own supporters but also, rival fans are throwing shots at the Saints. Players too...
After Southampton's most recent loss against Brighton and Hove Albion, former Southampton player and current Brighton player Adam Webster posted to social media, taking a dig at Southampton.
Posting to his Instagram profile, Adam Webster highlighted pictures from the match. He captioned the post, "Enjoyable day for the blue teams on the South Coast."
It doesn't take a genius to read between the lines here. Given that he came through the Portsmouth academy, Webster is clearly hinting that their fans should take joy from the result too.
If Portsmouth fans are taking joy from Southampton's shortcomings, then this is only laughable. After all, let's not forget that Portsmouth are also in woeful form this season. In fact, there is every possibility that they might not even be in the Championship to welcome Southampton next season.
Southampton fans are left with this one predicament: the joy of watching Portsmouth relegated as well or the comfort of knowing we can at least have a derby to look forward to next season.
As rage-inducing as Adam Webster's post was, who can really blame him? The ability to take a joke has been the only thing helping the Saints through this horrid season. If you don't laugh you'll cry, after all.
