Alvaro Carreras spent three years at the Real Madrid academy between 2017 and 2020, having arrived from the Deportivo La Coruna youth setup.
However, he was snared away by Manchester United, where he continued his progression, before finally making a big breakthrough at SL Benfica.
Having joined the Portuguese giants on loan in January 2024, his signing was made permanent last year and the 21-year-old left-back is now a regular starter for the team.
Moreover, given his development in Portugal, Real Madrid are believed to have taken note of the player and are said to be monitoring him closely, along with their arch-rivals Barcelona.

Speaking to the media after the match, the young left-back was asked about a potential return to Spain in the immediate future, considering that he is being linked with Real Madrid and Barça.
The 21-year-old defender, however, insisted that he is happy at Benfica, where he has a long contract, and wishes to repay the faith shown in him by the Portuguese club.
“Going back to Spain? We never know, but I have a contract for many years here at Benfica, I am happy. They gave me the opportunity to grow and I owe them everything,” said Carreras (h/t AS).
The former Real Madrid academy talent has a contract with Benfica until 2029 with a release clause worth €50 million.
Real Madrid were interested in a new left-back in Alphonso Davies, but he is all set to renew his contract at Bayern Munich and continue in Germany.
So, it remains to be seen if Los Blancos decide to look for alternatives and in that case whether Carreras features in their transfer plans for the future.
