“Thank you, football,” Gonalons wrote in his brief farewell post.

Among the likes on his announcement were nods of support from former Giallorossi teammates Daniele De Rossi and Edin Džeko.

The midfielder originally joined Roma in the summer of 2017 for €5 million—leaving boyhood club Lyon after seventeen years. He played one full season in the Italian capital, collecting 2 assists in 23 total appearances.

He joined Sevilla the following season on loan, reuniting with former Roma executive Ramon Monchi, before transferring to Granada on a permanent deal in 2019.
