Recently, Sheffield Wednesday have been tipped to sign former Southampton star Stuart Armstrong. A move, if possible, could see Armstrong reunited with ex-teammate Shea Charles.
Southampton's 2023/24 Championship campaign had a bittersweet conclusion. Obviously, it gave the Saints the Premier League status again, but the club parted ways with some key names in the end.
While departing names like Che Adams has been a grave mistake on Southampton's part, other exits have had a pivotal influence on the club too.
One such player has been former Saints midfielder Stuart Armstrong.
Under the previous manager, Russell Martin, Armstrong was one of the best Saints players. Though not the most technical or the most creative player, his versatility had made him a gem in Southampton's midfield.
Now, seeing the pitiful condition Southampton is currently in, a player like Armstrong seems highly necessary.
Sadly, now a U-turn for Stuart Armstrong from the MLS feels impossible. Nevertheless, a reunion of the midfield star with a former Saints teammate might be written in the stars.
As per The Sun's journalist Alan Nixon, Sheffield Wednesday are willing to bring Stuart Armstrong back into the Championship. Being stuck mid-table, boss Dany Rohl wants to sign him on a free transfer from Vancouver Whitecaps.
In case, a move becomes possible, it will be a memorable Saints trio reunion. With ex-staff member, Dany Rohl present as the boss, ex-teammate Shea Charles on loan, Armstrong's signing could be a huge chemistry boost for Sheffield's season ahead.
Currently, Armstrong has an MLS Contract till December 2026, but things often change faster than expected. To note, Sheffield Wednesday recently pulled one of the smartest full-circle transfers ever, and certainly, the Owls wouldn't give up on Armstrong easily.
Just imagine a midfield adorned with Shea Charles and Stuart Armstrong, with Dany Rohl as the boss. Come on, what if it isn't happening at Southampton, this trio would certainly raise the heat in the Championship.
