Former Watford defender Craig Cathcart set to retire just 15 days after joining Kortrijk | OneFootball

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that former Watford defender Craig Cathcart is set to retire from football, just 15 days after joining Belgian side Kortrijk. According to Tavolieri, the experienced Northern Ireland international has lost motivation to be a professional footballer.

This is certainly a blow for Kortrijk, who signed the veteran defender in an attempt to bolster a leaky defence that needed leadership. There will certainly be disappointment after just over two weeks since the player joined the club.

Former Manchester United prospect Cathcart was no stranger to Belgium, having played for Antwerp on loan for half of the 2007 season, making 13 appearances and scoring twice. In 2010 he left Manchester United to join Blackpool, helping them in their first Premier League season. After four years in the north of England, he moved south to just outside of London to play for Watford. Cathcart went on to make 262 appearances for Watford during his almost decade long spell with the Hornets, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.
