Mary Fowler says City can take immense pride from reaching the League Cup final after a dramatic late win over Arsenal.
The Australian was the Blues’ hero on the night, grabbing both goals to down the Gunners and set up a showpiece occasion with Chelsea in March.
Fowler fired City ahead but saw a penalty saved just minutes after Arsenal had themselves levelled from the spot after the break.
But her 95th-minute winner sealed a deserved victory at Meadow Park, something the 21-year-old was delighted to play an important role in.
“[It was] something to be really proud of,” she said of City’s win.
“Arsenal always put up a good fight and they played well tonight.
“I’m super proud of the girls and how we played and just happy to get the win.
“I was really happy. I felt mostly relief, but I was super happy, I’ve been wanting to win something with the girls for so long so to be a step closer to doing that is really exciting.”
March’s showpiece occasion at Pride Park will be Fowler’s first time playing in a final for City.
It’s a rerun of the 2022 League Cup final, which the Blues won 3-1 against Chelsea, and the Australian can’t wait to sample such a showpiece occasion.
She added: “Yeah, I’m really excited for that. I haven’t played in a final yet with the girls, so it’ll be a new feeling for me here.
“But I think we’re ready for it, and I’m just super pumped for it.”
