On loan from Bayern Munich, Paul Wanner has excelled since his switch to Heidenheim. But wanting to keep his player grounded, FCH head coach Frank Schmidt has calmed the hype around the 18-year-old attacker, who has four goal contributions (two goals, two assists) in four games for his new club this season.

Wanner’s performances has rightfully earned praise, but Schmidt responded post Heidenheim’s 4-0 win against Augsburg on Sunday afternoon.

“We should stop talking about Paul Wanner,” said Schmidt. “He’s doing a great job, no question about it, but in the end the team works.”

Wanner opened the scoring against Augsburg from the spot, and as Kicker notes, the club has no set penalty taker, the one whom exudes confidence on the day takes it, and the 18-year-old did just that, placing the ball into the bottom right corner.

He also assisted Adrian Beck for Heidenheim’s third of the afternoon, in addition to his goal on opening day, Wanner also scored in the DFB Pokal, and registered a goal and assist against BK Hacken in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

One thing is for certain, and that’s that the future looks bright for Wanner, and Schmidt is the right man to get the best out of Bayern Munich’s young prodigy.
