Fraud case reveals Chelsea could bank £143m from Hazard transfer | OneFootball

An alleged fraud case surrounding the training of Eden Hazard has revealed the true cost of the player’s transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid, with the west London side potentially banking £143m from the winger’s sale.

The figures have become public following an alleged fraud regarding FIFA’s training compensation laws, with a Korean company – named AFC Tubize SA – posing as the Belgian side AFC Tubize, who are entitled to a cut of Hazard’s transfer fees for their role in his development as a young player.

Hazard spent two years with the club aged between 12 and 13, entitling the outfit to 0.5% of the fee per year, a figure reportedly totalling in the region of £800,000.

According to Belgian outlet HLN, the news of the thwarted fraud attempt has revealed the true details of Hazard’s mega-money move to Spain, with the figure an increase on the previous reports of a €100m (£90m) upfront fee with a further €30m (£27m) in add ons.

The fee for Hazard – who has endured an underwhelming debut season amid injury problems at the Bernabeu – in fact totals to a potential €160m, paid over three instalments, with the Stamford Bridge outfit confident of collecting at least €130m, with a further €30m dependent on performance-related add-ons.

That huge fee for the Belgian international, coupled with Chelsea‘s inability to spend last summer due to a FIFA-imposed transfer ban on the club, has allowed Frank Lampard’s side to spend heavily this time around with the club having embarked on an expensive summer outlay.

Chelsea’s spending so far this summer has totalled more than £120m to date including the captures of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell, whilst that figure is expected to surpass the £200m mark with the club having agreed a club-record deal to sign highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz.

Former Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has also arrived on a free transfer, whilst young defender Malang Sarr has signed from Nice but is expected to be loaned out to continue his development, while the club are also expected to strengthen their goalkeeping department too.
