Freiburg have today confirmed that Daniel-Kofi Kyereh will miss the remainder of the season after the Ghanaian forward suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during training on Thursday.

Kyereh was examined at the hospital Friday which revealed his diagnosis. The 26-year-old will undergo an operation in the coming days and will miss Freiburg’s remaining 15 Bundesliga games.

Signed from St. Pauli in the summer for €4.5m, Kyereh played just 28 minutes across the first five Bundesliga games of the season but had since established himself as a key player in Christian Streich’s squad.

Kyereh scored in three competitive games in a row between October 1 and October 9 against Mainz and Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga, and French side FC Nantes in the Europa League.

Often deployed in central attacking-midfield behind two forwards, Kyereh actually played as a front two against Borussia Dortmund last weekend but was unable to impose himself on the game following Kiliann Sildillia’s sending off inside the opening 17 minutes, which forced Streich and Freiburg into a tactical change.
