América have been linked with a possible summer move for Tigres striker Nicolás López.
The rumour mill ran wild on Monday after all images of the player in the Los Auriazules jersey were removed from his official Instagram account.
While Monterrey seem the more likely destination should the former Uruguay U-20 international leave the Estadio Universitario, there is growing speculation that the Azulcrema could also be in the running for his signature.
That speculation heightened in the wake of Monday’s friendly between Tigres and América in Houston.
The 28-year-old opened the scoring at PNC Stadium in a 2-1 win for Miguel Herrera’s side, but López showed little emotion celebrating his strike from distance.
Given that the Montevideo native has only featured for six minutes of Tigres’ last three Clausura games, it is clear that all is not rosy.
Should América look to act on their suggested interest, Las Águilas would need to move out one of their foreign delegation before the 2022 Apertura as they are already at their limit of 10 non-Mexicans allowed.
