Barcelona have reportedly struck an agreement with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford over a loan deal until the end of the season.

Rashford hasn’t played for United in nine games and has made the bench only once in that period.

He was dropped by Ruben Amorim for “selection and training reasons” as well as his declaration last month that he was ready for a new challenge away from Old Trafford.

The England international was also excluded from Sunday’s squad that was beaten 3-1 by Brighton and Hove Albion, with Amorim later telling reporters that it was the forward’s own choice not to be considered for selection.

A number of teams both in England and abroad are believed to be keen on signing Rashford on loan but the major hindrance has been his massive £325,000-per-week wages. United are adamant that any suitor would need to cover the larger portion of Rashford’s salary.

It’s believed that Barcelona is among a number of outfits that Rashford’s brother and agent held talks with regarding a potential January switch.

Camp Nou is also thought to be Rashford’s preferred transfer destination.

Earlier today, it emerged that the Catalan giants are keen on quickly wrapping up a deal for Rashford because they’re wary of Borussia Dortmund swooping in and securing his services ahead of them.

Hansi Flick is said to be an admirer of Rashford.

Now, Spanish outlet Sport have given an update on the situation, indicating that the Blaugrana and Rashford have struck an agreement over a loan move, although they first need to get rid of some players to make space for the Carrington academy graduate.

According to Sport, “The club has reached an agreement with the English striker to join Hansi Flick’s team on loan until June 30.”

“However, Barça need to free up ‘fair play’ to accommodate the Manchester United player’s salary. Rashford has decided to play in Barcelona and will wait for the club’s movements until the last days of the transfer market.”

It’s understood that Barca could cover the entirety of Rashford’s remaining annual wages (approximately €9m). This figure could be reduced if Flick’s side manage to convince United to subsidise some of it.

One player Barca could axe to officially close Rashford’s signing is Eric Garcia, who has an offer to return to Girona.
