FSG are in takeover talks with Girondins de Bordeaux and the Liverpool owners are already involved in the day-to-day running of the Aquitaine side, according to a report from L’Equipe. Bordeaux have been handed an administrative relegation from Ligue 2 to third-tier National 1 by the DNCG – France’s football financial watchdog – this Tuesday. Bordeaux have appealed the decision and are expected to remain in Ligue 2 should FSG’s takeover prove successful.

The outlet adds that, as of now, nothing indicates with absolute certainty that FSG will complete the takeover of the 6-time French champions club. However, the American sports holding conglomerate, which also owns the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Penguins, is already involved in the running of the club. FSG also have a say in the strategic decisions of Bordeaux, such as the potential contract renewal of Vital Nsimba (31) and the possible departure of Gaëtan Weissbeck (27). L’Equipe add that Bordeaux deputy CEO Thomas Jacquemier has established himself as the privileged interlocutor for FSG.

Bordeaux now hope that FSG will find an agreement with majority shareholder Gérard Lopez for the buyout of his shares, considering Les Girondins need an urgent €42m deposit to possibly overturn the DNCG’s ruling and fund a full Ligue 2 season. FSG may loan Bordeaux the money to fund the season as a promise to purchase the club shortly. L’Equipe reported this week that FSG are planning to manage Bordeaux separately from Liverpool should any takeover bid succeed.
