Scott McTominay will not be heading for Fulham after their impending capture of Burnley’s Sander Berge, according to The Athletic.

The United man has been in high demand this summer, but United’s £30 million asking price has proved a deterrent for most. There have also been reports of his reluctance to leave Old Trafford.

United themselves have been looking to strengthen in midfield and had reportedly had an offer for Berge rejected by Burnley. The news then broke last night that Fulham had clinched the deal.

This led to many wondering if the Cottagers In an update on the situation this morning from The Athletic’s staff, it is said that “Fulham also renewed their interest in McTominay, having previously made bids below United’s valuation of at least £25million, but ended up going for Sander Berge, on Monday agreeing a deal of £20m plus £5m in add-ons.”

“Fulham moved on when it became clear McTominay wanted to wait on offers from other clubs.”

The news will come as a double blow to United, but there are others still in the mix for the Scot.

The outlet says “Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna travelled to England for face-to-face meetings on McTominay and progress is being made, although reports in Italy of personal terms being agreed with the player are incorrect.”

The Italian media has also consistently said that Napoli will not meet United’s £30 million price and any offer would probably be contingent on the sale of Victor Osimhen.

Turkish clubs remain keen on McTominay. The report notes that Galatasaray “made an attractive offer of personal terms” and also namedropped José Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

There is also still Premier League interest in McTominay according to the same Athletic report.

“Everton represent another opportunity in the Premier League but they would have to get creative with a transfer given their limited funds,” the outlet claims.

Concluding that any deal might be last minute, the report will leave United fans wondering if there will be time to replace McTominay should he go.

With Christian Eriksen also reportedly having been told to find a new club, and with Berge now out of the picture, everything seems to rest on the capture of PSG’s Manuel Ugarte and even that could leave United very thin on the ground in terms of central midfield options.
