Furious Barcelona consider appeal against decision to play Osasuna on March 27 | OneFootball

Earlier today, La Liga and RFEF confirmed that the postponed fixture between Barcelona and Osasuna will be played on March 27.

The match had to be rescheduled due to the sudden passing of the Blaugrana’s first-team doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia hours before kickoff.

Barça had been against playing the game right after the international break considering that they might be without two players – Raphinha and Ronald Araujo – who will be travelling from South America.

However, after assessing all options, the league and the Spanish Federation have decided to go ahead with the fixture on March 27.

Barcelona furious, considering appeal

Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona are furious over the decision to play their rescheduled La Liga match against Osasuna on Thursday, 27 March.

The ruling, made by the RFEF’s Sole Judge for Professional Competitions, sets the fixture during an international break, something the club had strongly opposed.

The Catalan club is now considering appealing the decision, as it will almost certainly mean playing without key players Araujo and Raphinha.

Both are scheduled to represent their national teams on the night of 25-26 March, making their participation highly unlikely due to travel fatigue and recovery time.

With the title race so tight, securing three points vs Osasuna is crucial for Barcelona. The potential absence of Araujo and Raphinha, who has been in exceptional form, adds to their frustration, especially following Inigo Martinez and Marc Casado’s injuries.

Sources within the club have expressed their outrage to SPORT, calling the decision “a disgrace” that fails to ensure fair competition.

Several La Liga clubs pushed for the match to be played in March rather than late May, arguing that a later date would disrupt the league’s integrity. Their pressure ultimately influenced the final ruling.

Barcelona’s frustration is further fuelled by what they see as preferential treatment for Real Madrid.

The club notes the contrast with Carlo Ancelotti’s recent complaints about scheduling against Villarreal and the influence exerted by their rivals’ media presence.

While Barcelona feel unfairly penalised by scheduling decisions, they believe their rivals are given far more flexibility.

With just three days between the Osasuna match and a key clash against Girona on 30 March, Barcelona now face a demanding return from the international break.
