Manchester City could yet sanction an exit for the sale of long-standing club icon and legend Bernardo Silva as part of a squad revamp across 2025.

Officials at the Etihad Stadium are understood to be aware of the need to significantly refresh Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City options ahead of the Catalan tactician’s final two years of contract following his latest extension in November.

A number of players within the current squad are deemed to be either ageing and out of energy to perform at the very highest level, out of contract and open to negotiations with potential suitors, or simply not at the standard required for the Etihad club.

Among those that face an uncertain future across the next summer transfer window in particular include the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, who is into the final six months of contract, Kyle Walker, Ilkay Gundogan, Matheus Nunes, and Ederson.

But aside from the more obvious names due to age and expiring contractual situations, a new report has linked one of Pep Guardiola’s most popular players with an exit from the club having spent the last seven seasons working with the former FC Barcelona boss.

That is according to the information of MailSport’s Sami Mokbel, who reveals that Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva is among the players whose position in Guardiola’s future plans is ‘unclear’ ahead of the 2025/26 season.

It is further pointed out that sources have claimed that the Premier League champions were ‘open’ to listening to offers for the Portugal international, who has been linked with an exit over the last two summer markets.

From next summer, the 30-year-old will enter into the final 12 months of his existing Manchester City contract and unsurprisingly, MailSport reports that it is ‘likely’ he will attract attention from top clubs in Europe.

Public comments on the future of the Portuguese midfielder have remained few and far between for several months now, with Pep Guardiola last commenting on the subject during the last summer market.

The 53-year-old said, “There are many rumours in the press on Bernardo but no one has called us so far… We’ve received no calls from Barça or any other club… He’s a wonderful player, I hope he’s going stay with us.”

Silva has been linked with a move away from Manchester City for several years, with some reports suggestion that he has fallen out of love with the culture and climate in the north-west of England, tying him with strong interest from FC Barcelona.
