Gabbia commits future to AC Milan with new contract | OneFootball

AC Milan have confirmed a contract extension for defender Matteo Gabbia, keeping him at the club until June 2029.

Gabbia, a product of Milan’s youth academy, returned to the club in January 2024 after loan spells at Lucchese and Villarreal.

Since his return, the 25-year-old has become a regular in Milan’s defence, making eight appearances this season across Serie A and the Champions League.

His performances also earned him a call-up to the Italian national team.

A muscular injury sidelined Gabbia for a month, limiting his contributions, but he made headlines with a crucial goal in Milan’s 2-1 Derby della Madonnina victory over Inter Milan on September 22.

Milan announced the extension with a playful social media post featuring Gabbia in a cage, referencing his surname, which means ‘cage’ in Italian.

The new deal reportedly doubles his previous salary, with Gabbia now set to earn around €1.8 million per season plus bonuses, up from approximately €1m. His previous contract had been due to expire in 2026.

Gabbia has made 84 senior appearances for Milan, contributing five goals and one assist. His steady rise reflects his dedication and ability to step up in crucial moments, such as the Champions League and key Serie A matches.

The defender has been a part of the Rossoneri’s system since joining their youth set-up over a decade ago. His new contract symbolises Milan’s faith in his potential and their vision for a long-term partnership.

With Gabbia locked down for another five years, Milan have secured a reliable presence in their defensive line as they continue to compete domestically and in Europe.
