After the win against Genoa, Matteo Gabbia spoke to the media and hit back at the notion that AC Milan need a wake-up call to win games.
It looked like Milan were heading for a defeat as Genoa took the lead in the second half, with few chances created by the Rossoneri as well. However, a few subs brought the matter back to life and two minutes later, the turnaround was complete.
Gabbia spoke to DAZN (via MilanNews) after the final whistle and shared his thoughts on what was an important win for Milan. He didn’t agree that Genoa’s goal was a wake-up call for Milan, though, referring to recent precedents against Udinese and Venezia.
How come this Milan always needs a wake-up call?
“I don’t agree with your analysis, lately it hasn’t been like that. Against Venezia, we took the first step, against Udinese too. Whoever enters always gives a great contribution, but it’s a team effort that must accompany us until the end.”
Is Leao too criticised?
“He doesn’t have to listen to the critics, he’s a very strong player. He has to listen to the coach and to all those who really love him and want him to reach an even higher level. He’s a champion, we pamper him and he wins us games.”
Does the Coppa Italia final change your opinion of the season?
“We have to try to win all the games, then we’ll take stock at the end of the season. We have to do well until the end, then we’ll see what we can get.”
Gabbia was handed a 6.5/10 in our player ratings, among the best-rated ones, after what was a solid defensive display. He also had some crucial clearances towards the end of the game, continuing his good form in the centre of the three-man backline.
