Flamengo claimed the Supercopa do Brasil with a 3-0 win over Athletico-PR, with Gabriel âGabigolâ Barbosa yet again in the goals for the Rubro-Negro.
Bruno Henrique opened the scoring after 15 minutes before Gabigol added a second just before the half-hour mark.
Giorgian De Arrascaeta put a bow on the result in the 69th minute as Flamengo backed up the midweek assertion of manager Jorge Jesus that his side are operating on âanother levelâ in comparison to their domestic rivals.
One player who is certainly in a league of his own at the moment is Gabigol.
The striker spent last season on loan from Inter Milan, and recently signed permanently for the team he helped lead to the Campeonato Carioca, BrasileirĂŁo and Copa Copa Libertadores in 2019.
His goal in Sundayâs Supercopa clash brought his tally to 47 in just over a season, and â incredibly â already has him sitting joint second on the list of the clubâs 21st Century scorers.
Renato Abreu is top with 73 goals, with Gabigol, Vagner Love, Obina and LĂ©o Moura tied on 47.
Of the four bunched in second, however, Gabigol is by far the most efficient.
He reached 47 in 63 games, whereas Love (81 games), Obina (182), and Moura (519) took far longer to get there.

The goal also saw Gabigol overtake the legendary Adriano on the all-time charts, who amassed 46 goals in his two spells at the Maracaña.
âVery happy to pass Adriano and other players with so little time,â Barbosa said after the game.
âObviously, I donât score goals alone. My teammates and Mister give me positioning tips that increase my potential.â
At just 23 years of age and having signed a contract until December 2024, there is no reason to doubt Gabigol is likely to leave an indelible mark on the record books.
