Liverpool fans will be savouring another trip to Wembley after a dominant 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. Arne Slot’s side displayed total control at Anfield, leaving Spurs with no shots on target across the entire match. The performance was hailed by Gags Tandon and Jack McIndoe on The Gags Tandon Show on Anfield Index, with the duo analysing just how impressive Liverpool’s display was.
“This team is all about control,” Tandon emphasised. “From minute one to minute ninety-whatever.” Liverpool’s measured approach was a masterclass in Slot’s philosophy, with the hosts maintaining composure and patience against a Spurs side that struggled to break free from relentless pressure.
McIndoe echoed the sentiment, pointing out how Liverpool’s ability to dictate play has been a recurring theme this season. “We’re going from strength to strength, performance after performance,” he said. “When you’ve got leaders on the pitch like Van Dijk, they step up on the big occasion.”
That leadership was evident throughout, with Virgil van Dijk marshaling the defence to perfection. Despite a slow start to the match, Liverpool never looked in danger, controlling possession and gradually dismantling a second-string Spurs side that “got battered,” as Tandon bluntly put it.

Mo Salah was at his brilliant best, delivering a complete attacking performance that included a beautifully taken penalty. McIndoe praised Salah’s contribution, particularly his ability to create chances and drive Liverpool forward. “He was running the game today,” he noted. “The cross for the goal was great, and the penalty – no one’s saving it.”
Salah’s penalty, curled into the corner with pinpoint precision, was described by Tandon as a “banana” shot that no goalkeeper in the world could stop. It was a statement performance from a player who has rediscovered his sharpness after a minor dip in form.
Two of Liverpool’s summer signings, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, produced standout displays in midfield. Gravenberch’s numbers were exceptional – 94% pass accuracy, five out of seven duels won, two out of three dribbles completed, seven recoveries, and 100% tackle success.
Tandon noted how Gravenberch is rediscovering his early-season form: “Again, he’s coming back into that form from early season… Imagine what happens if they actually get this season over the line with the big one.”
Meanwhile, Szoboszlai, named Man of the Match by FotMob, controlled the tempo in midfield, showcasing his ability to break lines and provide attacking thrust. McIndoe admitted he had high expectations for the Hungarian but was now witnessing “the best of Szoboszlai” in recent weeks.
Darwin Nunez may not have been on the scoresheet, but his defensive work from corners did not go unnoticed. “It was like having big Sami Hyypiä at the front post,” McIndoe remarked, highlighting Nunez’s three headed clearances from corners.
His rapid burst of pace also won Liverpool’s penalty, further underlining his importance to the team. “The hunger, the desire, the determination – that’s what you want,” McIndoe added.
With a Wembley final now confirmed, Liverpool will face Newcastle United in a repeat of last year’s showdown. McIndoe expects a stern test but remains confident. “If we play our game, I think we’ll have enough.”
Tandon, however, is already focused on the immediate fixture list. “Honestly, my thoughts are more on Sunday already than a final in a month.” With a congested schedule ahead, Slot’s ability to rotate effectively will be crucial.
Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Spurs was not just a triumph but a statement of intent. As Tandon summed up, “This was the most controlled semi-final you’re gonna find.” The Reds have found a balance under Slot, blending defensive resilience with attacking efficiency. If they maintain this level, a Premier League and Carabao Cup double could very well be on the cards.
