Gary Neville has talked Premier League title race - and compared both Liverpool and Arsenal. The two clubs have a massive chance with Manchester City's problems.

Manchester City have stumbled in their Premier League title defence. In fact, stumbled is probably underselling it - they've lost five in a row in all competitions.

Liverpool are now five clear and if they beat Southampton on Sunday, they could be eight clear before November is out. And who's on their way to Anfield next? Manchester City.

Now Gary Neville is weighing in. He feels there are no excuses for not winning it - if you're Arsenal.

No more excuses

Neville believes it's Arsenal who don't have any excuses for winning the title this season. After all, they've come close for the last two years - and were second-favourites going into the campaign.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been something of a surprise package.

“[Challengers] must be thinking ‘hang on a minute - there’re no excuses here now'," Neville told Sky Sports. "I’m looking more at Arsenal with that statement than Liverpool because I think anyone would have said at the start of the season that Arne Slot would have come in and done what he’s done, I’d have said ‘no, I’m not quite sure that’s going to happen’.

“This was Arsenal’s season if it wasn’t going to be City’s. So I think the pressure is really on Arsenal now to step up and go for it. They had a good start there with the 3-0 [against Nottingham Forest].

“But for Liverpool, sat there at the top of the league, with that back five that they’ve got, and those front players and the options that they have, they must be really fancying it now.”

Liverpool never really would have expected to be in this position after 11 games. Neville's absolutely right there.

The Reds merely wanted to build on a promising season from last time under their new boss. Instead, they're now favourites to win it all. Despite not actually really adding any new players.

It's been a crazy drop-off from City, primarily because they don't know how to react to Rodri's injury. It leaves Liverpool in an incredibly strong position - and Arsenal wondering how they correct things.

The Reds can regain their nine-point lead over the Gunners with a win over Southampton. It would leave Mikel Arteta's team with a mountain to climb - and no excuses.
