Santiago Gimenez was one of five signings that AC Milan made during a hectic winter transfer window, and he is the headline purchase too.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recalls, Milan managed to sign him on a permanent deal after a long negotiation with Feyenord. The Mexican striker was already at Milanello yesterday where he did some individual work due to the small physical problem he sustained against Lille last week.
The Milan medical staff did not want to take any risks, indeed the responses were positive and today the new No.7 will do his first training session with the group under the orders of Sergio Conceiçao.
Indeed, Gimenez is aiming to make his debut for Milan tomorrow night at San Siro against Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
It is yet to be seen whether he will start or come off the bench during the match, but if everything goes as planned during today’s training session at Milanello, Milan fans will see him on the field.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic said before the derby: “He is ready and fired up.” Today at 12, the Mexico international will be presented to the media at Milanello, then off to train with his new team-mates for the first team.
Gimenez, who scored 16 goals for Feyenoord in the first part of the season, spoke about his emotions to Milan TV: “Milan was the club I had been in love with since I was a child. I watched Kakà, Beckham, Ronaldinho, Pirlo, Gattuso… That whole group of players who impressed the world.
“This is why Milan has always been my dream since I was little . I have so many old photos of me wearing the red and black shirt.” The former Cruz Azul centre-forward really wanted Milan and now his dream has finally come true.
