Christian Pulisic is on his way back to Italy ahead of scheduled after being released by the USMNT, and Paulo Fonseca will welcome back a player who is full of confidence.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport recall, Mauricio Pochettino’s words before the USA’s first friendly against Panama caused alarm: “He’s playing every single game, every single minute at Milan and this is something that worries us. Sometimes we have to protect him, he arrived a little tired.”

Pochettino’s cautious words have translated into actions because the decision has been made to allow Pulisic to skip the USA friendly in the early hours of Wednesday morning (European time) in order to return to Milanello and begin preparing for Saturday’s game against Udinese.

The report adds how the winger has scored 21 goals since the beginning of last season with 13 assists too, while the current one has begun with the prospect (six goals in nine games) of doing even better than last season’s personal best tally of 15.

The King Midas of Milanello. Without a doubt the most technically gifted player in the Rossoneri squad. For the simple reason that he is complete: he has dribbling, shooting, acceleration and tactical intelligence. What more could a striker need?

Pulisic has so far played 720 of the 810 minutes available and so it’s as if he had missed a match, but these are misleading numbers because ‘Captain America’ has always started, only taking a breather in the final moments of the game.

On the other hand, his six goals and two assists mean that he has contributed to half of the Rossoneri’s 16 goals so far this season, so he is quite literally irreplaceable at the moment. With the penalty debacle of Florence behind everyone, the mission is to keep rolling from Saturday onwards.

For the USA he is the symbol of the national team, the man of goals, assists (like the one to Yunus Musah the other day) and merchandising. ESPN just gave him the top spot in the USMNT Player Performance Index, the ranking of the top 50 American players by performance.

“The gap between him and the second (Balogun) is about the same size as the gap between the second and eighth,” wrote the ESPN reporter. Pulisic is a wanted man, everywhere.
