Sergio Conceiçao is currently in the phase of evaluating the players currently in the AC Milan squad, but that hasn’t stopped transfer links with various players.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write that the Milan directors are already working to try to give the new coach useful and welcome reinforcements, even if the coach admitted that he wants to see what he has first. There could be interventions in all three outfield departments.
Attack: In addition to Monaco’s Akliouche and Stuttgart’s Leweling, Sporting CP’s Francisco Trincao has been added to the list of candidates for the role of winger. Trincao is represented by agent Jorge Mendes, like the new coach, and Sporting don’t want to sell but the player would be keen.
Trincao’s contractual situation helps given his deal expires in 2026. The Portuguese side bought him from Barça in 2023, paying €7m, and now he would cost no more than €25m despite the fact that he is having an excellent season (six goals and 11 assists across all competitions).
Another candidate also comes from Portugal: Pepê, Conceiçao’s favourite at Porto, who would come to Milan in a heartbeat too. The Brazilian has an Italian passport (a fundamental detail, given that the Rossoneri no longer have places for non-EU players) and is 27 years of age, ready to test himself in a new league.

His quality? Versatility. He plays in practically every role up across the forward line (left and right winger, attacking midfielder, second striker) and even full-back. Porto, however, are an expensive shop and Milan know that after the Mehdi Taremi saga.
Midfield: Conceiçao may decide to keep Tijjani Reijnders in a more advanced position, thus using Youssouf Fofana and Ismael Bennacer in a double pivot, so it might be necessary to extend the rotations with an additional midfielder.
The most accessible solutions are in Italy, from Morten Frendrup (Genoa) to Reda Belahyane (Verona) and Warren Bondo (Monza). Watch out for Mendes’ assistance though, such as Samu Costa, a 24-year-old midfielder at Real Mallorca, who recently joined the Portuguese national team.
A distinguishing feature of Costa is that he ‘growls like Rino Gattuso’. He is, in fact, fourth for tackles won in the current LaLiga season. The issue though is that to register a player from abroad over 22, a player must leave.
Defence: In recent days, contacts have continued for Cristhian Mosquera of Valencia. The Spaniards are always reluctant to sell him in January, but on the other hand, if Fikayo Tomori were to stay, Milan would not be in a hurry to speed up the negotiations.
In short, the discussion would still be alive in view of June. With the risk of relegation (Valencia are second to last in LaLiga) and without a renewal (contract expires on 30 June 2026), Mosquera could even cost less in the summer.
