Paulo Fonseca is fighting an uphill battle at AC Milan currently, and his task will not be made easier in the approach to Christmas, a report has claimed.
Despite being at Milan for almost six months now, Fonseca’s side still lack a consistent identity, a question which the Portuguese head coach tiptoed around during his most recent pre-match press conference. Following the game against Slovan Bratislava, Leao also admitted that the side needed more time to understand ideas.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport claim that there are some reasons for this. Not only are the Rossoneri involved heavily in cup competitions, which lessens Fonseca’s time to train with the squad, but there are several long international breaks to take into account.
As with anything, a revolution takes time, and the distance between Stefano Pioli’s football and the Portuguese’s is not short.
It seemingly will get worse before it gets better too.
Between now and the new year, Fonseca will get just nine days to properly work with the squad. Christmas returns from fixtures and then also the Supercoppa Italiana, the list is huge and the gaps are few.
To aid this, the paper suggests the coach must work on two things above anything else, defensive stability and the final product. At both ends, the squad have notable issues, and Fonseca must stabilise these above anything.
Then, and only then can we focus on other things, but time must be used wisely. After all, Fonseca will not find more time for training under the Christmas tree next month.
