Genk have announced that Hendrik Van Crombrugge has signed a new deal at the club. The 30-year-old, who has impressed in recent weeks with his performances, has signed a deal that will last until 2027. The former Anderlecht man is now the sides first choice in goal under Thorsten Fink.
Van Crombrugge began the season as back up to youngster Mike Penders. The latter signed for Chelsea almost immediately after starting the first league game of the season and, while he returned to the club on loan, Fink opted to go with the experienced Van Crombrugge instead. The goalkeeper joined the side from Anderlecht but had to play back-up to Maarten Vandevoordt last season. He has since left for RB Leipzig in a transfer that was arranged a handful of seasons ago.
Since coming in for Penders, Van Crombrugge has shown performances reminiscent of his time when he was first choice at Anderlecht. In the sides recent draw away to local rivals Sint Truiden Van Crombrugge made a string of important saves to keep the league leaders in the game.
