Following some impressive performances at the World Cup, Voetbalkrant is reporting that Gent are interested in Australian midfielder Keanu Baccus. Baccus moved to St Mirren in Scotland from Western Sydney Wanderers in the summer of 2022, but is already garnering interest from Gent and AEK Athens.
The 24 year-old midfielder has played 13 games in all competitions for St Mirren, scoring twice and providing one assist. He then went on to make four appearances for the Australian national team as the side qualified from their group before losing in the knock-out stages to Argentina.
Baccus started his career with Western Sydney in the Australian A League, where he made 112 appearances, scoring six goals and 10 assists.
Gent are currently looking for new investment, as they announced another year of losses earlier this month. The side are currently fifth in the Belgian Pro League, just three points off of Club Brugge. The side have lost just one of their previous five matches, and will face Cercle Brugge on the 20th of December in the cup as their first game back from the World Cup break.
