Como head coach Cesc Febregas seems ready to take his managerial career to the next step amid interest from several elite clubs. According to Calciomercato, Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig have joined Milan in the race to sign the highly-rated Spaniard.
Despite a lack of experience in top-flight management, Fabregas has enjoyed a breakout season at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. Indeed, the 37-year-old is on the verge of helping Como preserve their Serie A status in their first season back in Italy’s top division in over 20 years.
With seven rounds left, Como boast a substantial nine-point lead on 18th-placed Empoli. In addition to impressive on-field results, Fabregas has proved well-versed in working with talented young players. He has launched Nico Paz’s rise to prominence while establishing Assane Diao as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects.
Therefore, Milan have earmarked the Como boss as an ideal candidate to replace Sergio Conceicao at the end of the season. Despite claiming Supercoppa Italiana glory, the ex-Porto manager will likely wave goodbye to the San Siro in June, with Fabregas tipped to fill the vacancy in the dugout.
However, Milan may need to fend off stiff competition from Leipzig to lure the ex-Arsenal midfield away from Como. Die Roten Bullen have identified Fabregas as a viable solution to replace Marco Rose after the club sacked the German tactician amid a dreadful spell of form.
Como would ideally keep hold of Fabregas, whose contract runs out in 2028, putting the club in a strong bargaining position this summer.
