Miguel Ángel Sánchez Muñoz – also known as Michel – is expecting a very difficult game for his Girona side against AC Milan at San Siro.
For Milan the mission is simple: win the last two games to be absolutely certain of a spot in the top eight of the Champions League ‘league phase’. This would secure direct qualification for the last 16 of the competition, removing the need for a two-legged play-off in an already busy February.
After the defeat against Juventus in the league after which Sergio Conceicao made his frustrations known again, there is also pride on the line and the ability to bounce back in a different competition, given the league struggles.
Alvaro Morata is back in training and will be available, but at present it seems as though Christian Pulisic will not recover having trained separately on Tuesday. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Samuel Chukwueze, Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Alessandro Florenzi are the other absentees.
Michel gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he previewed what will be a memorable night for Girona as a club and for his players, with MilanNews relaying his comments.
How are you gearing up for the trip to Milan?
“With immense pleasure. As a footballer, I grew up with Madrid’s ‘Quinta del Buitre’ and Sacchi’s Milan. We still have to face Milan and Arsenal, two great clubs, and especially this last away game in a historic stadium like San Siro.
“We have very little chance of qualifying even with 6 points, so I tell my players to enjoy the setting, the opponent and the competition.”

What do you think of Milan? They recently changed coaches…
“When you change coach it means that something has gone wrong. Conceiçao had the ability and merit to arrive and win a title right away, important when you have to try to get your ideas across quickly.
“He has a spectacular team and has taken away Leao’s problems, we are talking about a player who has a natural ability to overcome rivals that is unique in the world, and he is not alone.
“The left wing with Theo is devastating. With Conceiçao Milan are more vertical and is capable of beating anyone.”
