Corinthians goalkeeper Cássio has been voted the club’s player of the year in a poll conducted by Gazeta Esportiva.
The fact that the stopper was the Timão’s top performer is a good indication of how tough a season it was for them.
Corinthians did claim the Paulista Championship title, but finished a disappointing eighth in Brazil’s Serie A.
Cássio received 47% of the votes, followed by playmaker Pedrinho (40%) and captain and right-back Fagner (13%).
The 32-year-old netminder appeared in 67 of the 77 games Corinthians played in 2019.
Their record when he was involved was 27 wins, 24 draws and 16 defeats.
Cássio’s excellent form saw him called up to the Brazil squad for last summer’s Copa America, but he didn’t see any action as he was very much third choice in coach Tite’s mind.
