The ‘Eintracht in the Region’ campaign got off to the perfect start in the Main-Kinzig district as the Eagles served up an eventful 14-0 victory over A Liga side FSV Geislitz.

FSV’s sports complex on the outskirts of Geislitz was packed to the rafters on Tuesday, as fans flocked to see Eintracht Frankfurt up close in the opening game of the fourth edition of the ‘Eintracht in the Region’ campaign. Sunshine, 2,500 spectators, countless smiling faces and a sprawling event area – everything was in place for an unforgettable Eintracht-themed day in the district of Main-Kinzig.

Delight at FSV Geislitz

“We could get used to this,” said Max Meyer, sporting director of amateur side Geislitz, with a chuckle when asked about the two Eintracht team buses parked adjacent to the clubhouse. Geislitz had originally registered their interest in facing the Eagles’ legends team before being told that Dino Toppmöller’s side would be paying them a visit. “Our first thought was: ‘This can’t be true!’” continued Meyer. “The past ten days have been tiring for our 20 to 25-man squad, but seeing everyone here now overrides everything else.”

Aside from youngsters Christian Prenaj, Aiden Harangi, Amil Siljevic and Fousseny Doumbia, Eintracht fielded Aurèle Amenda, Farès Chaibi, Igor Matanovic, Elye Wahi, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, Can Uzun and Timothy Chandler in the first half against the newly crowned A Liga (ninth-tier) champions and soared into a 5-0 lead at the interval. “It’s an amazing feeling,” said FSV striker Oliver Brosch. “The Eintracht lads are all in great form – it’s great fun.”

Trapp up front

Eagles captain Kevin Trapp, who was brought on as a striker, was joined on the pitch by Michy Batshuayi, Niels Nkounkou, Niko Ilicevic and Metehan Yildirim for the second half, with Matanovic, Amenda, Bahoya and Chaibi making way. The Eagles ended up cruising to a 14-0 win, but the focus was very much on the fans and an unforgettable experience for the home side. “Many thanks to all the spectators – it was brilliant,” reflected FSV boss Dennis Naase, with Toppmöller adding: “It was a great occasion. Wonderful weather and fans – and lots of goals!”
