Cifuentes took the opportunity to speak to fans ahead of tonight's important clash in the English capital.

Queens Park Rangers head coach Marti Cifuentes has pleaded with supporters to stick with his team despite their poor start to the season.

Speaking to the R's media team, the Spaniard took the opportunity to send a message to fans, who will be very disappointed with how their team have fared during the early stages of the 2024/25 campaign.

When Cifuentes and his assistant Xavi Calm signed new contracts at the end of September, that vote of confidence from the board could have been what was needed to turn QPR's season around.

Unfortunately, the club's form hasn't improved since those extensions were handed out, and they missed a golden opportunity on Saturday to get themselves back on track.

They faced Portsmouth at home this past weekend and took the lead through Karamoko Dembele, and considering Pompey hadn't won a single league game all season, the R's were expected to go on and win that game.

However, goals from Freddie Potts and Callum Lang consigned the hosts to another defeat at Loftus Road.

This result and Cardiff City's thumping win against Plymouth Argyle saw QPR drop down to the bottom of the Championship table - and questions surrounding Cifuentes' future may crop up sooner rather than later unless he can get his team back to winning ways.

Tonight, they face a Coventry City team who have plenty of talented players in their squad, but they made a very poor start to the season.

Mark Robins is another man under pressure - and tonight's clash at Loftus Road could be crucial for both teams' campaigns.

Cifuentes knows he's a man under pressure - and he has urged his side's supporters to get fully behind the team ahead of their game against Coventry tonight.

He told QPR's official website ahead of the crunch clash: "I know that all of us were very disappointed after Portsmouth but I am sure that the supporters will understand that they can play a very important part of our game, they lifted our game so much last season.

"I am going to ask them for help in this moment because I know the team is not playing at the level that we want and the team perhaps is missing confidence.

"Usually, I am the first to say it is our performances that we need to lift the crowd but in this moment I think they can play a very important part in this.

"Hopefully it will be one of those days with this atmosphere that I know Loftus Road can produce in an evening game."

Outcome of QPR v Coventry City could have significant consequences for both managers

QPR need to get themselves off the bottom of the table as quickly as possible.

They may not have a huge deficit to make up in their quest to get out of the relegation zone, but the longer they spend in the bottom three, the more it will play on their mind.

Getting a win tonight after missing a great opportunity on Saturday is a must.

Coventry will also be in relegation danger if they can't improve their current form.

Doug King may have a decision to make in the coming weeks if the Sky Blues don't improve their form - and that's a major shame because their manager has done an exceptional job during his time there.
