Graham Potter had to urge himself not to get too carried away by the performance of “amazing” Ollie Scarles, who impressed on his first Premier League start in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Arsenal.

Prompted to offer a word on Scarles’s display, Potter replied: “I need more than a word. Amazing. That’s some performance.
“He’s been really, really good since we’ve come in. It’s a big thank-you to the academy, because that type of player is [rare]. And person as well - he’s a really good character. Obviously I’m saying a lot now but I need to calm it down because he’s still young and has a lot to do.
“But he’s got the temperament to be really […] There’s a lot to look forward to.”
Potter said of West Ham win at title-chasing Arsenal: “A fantastic performance. Very disciplined, committed, and full of effort and intelligence. We were playing about a fantastic team and you have to suffer at times, but I think the players did it well.
“For the players, for the supporters, for us, it’s a big win. It’s a really good day.”
